Who would be the one who does not get lost in the world of their thoughts? We all love to wander in our dreamland, visiting intriguing places in the world of imagination and forging some new thesis about the universe…sometimes it can take us to an exoplanet…

Well, the universe is much more bewildering than one could imagine. Whether it’s the interior of earth or the depths of cosmos, the universe has never failed to amuse us. This time, we are going to discuss the “9 strangest Exoplanet ” ever found in the universe.

1. PSR B1620-26 b

Located in the constellation of Scorpius around 12,400 light-years away, PSR B1620-26 b is the oldest exoplanets known to date. Formed roughly a billion years after Big Bang, it procures an age of 12.7 billion years, thrice that of our Earth! Nicknamed as “Methuselah” or “The Genesis Planet”, it was the first-ever circumbinary planet (a planet that orbits 2 stars) to be discovered.

Watch: The mystery behind Methuselah star, a star found to be older than the universe.

2.TrES-2bThe Darkest Exoplanet

TrES-2b is an exoplanet orbiting a star known as GSC 03549-02811, located around 750 light-years from the Solar System. Identified in 2011, the planet is classified as a Hot Jupiter. It’s the darkest known exoplanet, reflecting less than 1% light that falls upon it. It’s even darker than your acrylic paint!

3.Corot-7B

Revolving at a distance of just 1.6 million miles (2.6 million km) from its host star, this exoplanet can experience temperatures over 3000° C. Classified as a Super-Earth, it may possess molten lava surface while experiencing rains of magnesium, aluminum, and iron. Although it is notable for its short orbital period which just lasts 20 hours, it is no less than a living hell in the Universe.

4.GJ 504 bA Pink Exoplanet

Similar to Jupiter, the planet consists of pink gas and is even 4 times more massive. Burning at a temperature of more than 470° F, the planet’s intense heat causes it to glow in magenta! Located just 47 light-years away in the constellation of Virgo, the planet was directly imaged using an adaptive optics system.

5. 55 Cancri e

55 Cancri e - the diamond exoplanet

Popularly known as the “Diamond Planet”, 55 Cancri e sits in the constellation of Cancer, just 40 light-years away. Known to orbit a G-Type main-sequence star (known more about stellar classification here), its orbit lasts for just 18 hours. With the surface temperature of around 4900° F, the planet is probably rich in carbon and around 1/3 rd of it could be diamonds.

6.WASP-12b

Almost 3 times as big as Jupiter, this planet hosts itself the title “Doomed World”. With its rapidly degrading orbit, it is on a death trail by its host star. The star is hastily eating the planet’s atmosphere, which might devour the planet in some 10 million years. As the planet orbit so close to its star, it takes only a little over a day to orbit the star. Also, tearing of the planet causes the gases to form a spectacular ring system around the star.

7.PSR J1719-1438 ba fast exoplanet

Sharing a lot of characteristics with the diamond planet “55 Cancri e”, the planet is located in the constellation of Serpens, round 3900 light-years from Earth. Classified as a “Pulsar Planet”, the rock orbits a millisecond pulsar just 12 miles in diameter! Orbiting at a distance of 0.004 AU (around 600000 km)  from the pulsar, the planet tops the USPP (Ultra Short Period Planet) category, completing an orbit in just 2.2 hours.

8. 1SWASP J1407b

Located around 420 light-years in the constellation of Centaurus, the planet has the most exotic ring system ever discovered, around 200 times bigger than Saturn’s rings. Although The Sight would be a delightful visit, it may take us over 7 million years to reach even while traveling at the speed of NASA’s New Horizons space probe.

9. HD 189733b

With mass 13% more than that of Jupiter, the planet orbits really close to its host star. With temperature ranges above 1200 K, it has one of the most vicious environment one could imagine. Even Venus’s atmosphere may look hospitable before it. Besides that, it also completes its orbit in just 2 days!
